Day after tournament bite was tougher. Cold front with wind moved in. Water temp dropped few degrees over night. Fish moved from where they were on submerged grass points out to edges of flats/humps. Had to slow drag a finesse jig to get bites. Landed a nice 4lb largemouth but that was one of 3 fish total for the day.

Keyed in on submerged grass in the 7-12’ range. Biggest bites came off points with this condition. Wind was heavy today. Could have used a 3/4 oz but didn’t have one with me.

Keying in on submerged vegetation with water temps lower than the previous day, I found the fat ika to be irresistible. Probably 30 keeper bites throughout the day. No real size to them, most in the 2lb range but fun catching non the less. Fishing this Texas rigged with minimal weight. I found the majority of my bites came during the “dead” sticking after initial twitch. NOTE: if fishing this or any Texas rig dead sticking, if you think you feel a bite, set the hook and reel. It’s common that you are actually feeling the second bite and if you wait too long the chance of gut hooking your fish because it’s had time to inhale the bait is very high. Keep fish alive to be caught again!

Saw this bass roaming tight to the bottom in tall submerged grass on FF sonar. Led my cast in his direction and let the jig fall on slack line. Few short twitch’s, felt the tick and set the hook. Tournament partner also doubled up on same pattern as I caught this 4lb largemouth. Bass seem to love submerged vegetation during fall transition here

This bait flat out catches them. Great for working thru thick submerged grass. Over 20 bass caught today over 2.5 lbs.

Best fish of the day. Just shy of 5lbs. Caught pitching into tall reeds. Water temp has risen a bit due to abnormal heat wave. Shallow bite to likely die off in the next few weeks as the grass starts to die and oxygen lives in the weeds lowers. This short period of time is one of my favorites of the year.

Fall transition has the bass moved way up into cover. Pitched z craw into the thickest spots and isolated pockets. 3 rod twitch’s and if no bite. Reeled in and cast again. Reverse game of whack a mole. Heavy to x-heavy rod, once you feel the bite, set the hook HARD and don’t stop reeling until the fish is out of the cover. If they can wrap you up, the chance of the fish making it to the boat goes down drastically.

21 September…. Sacked this 7.3lb fatty in 8-10’ of 64 degree water. Light breeze. Partly sunny. My best 5 went 25.6 but… I caught roughly 15 solid fish through the day. The Magdraft was the key, they wouldn’t mess with smaller swimmers, didn’t want flashy. Awesome early fall day. Things are beating up, Maine!

Caught a nice limit, around 16lbs using the largo shad on points and drop offs with vegetation and grass present. Big was a 4.8lb. Weather was 60 and water 64. Partly Cloudy/showers.
