Biggest of my latest Squam trip was a 4.89 Largemouth. Best five for the day went 16.48, all largemouth. Sniper Jig from Beast Coast did the heavy lifting catching all my fish. Color didn’t seem to matter all that much as long as you found them. Caught them on Stealth Craw, OG Brown Craw, and Dirtbag. The key was to find areas with good chunk rock in 10-20ft of water that had 30+ft nearby for the fish to go to.

October trip up to Squam. Sniper Jig from beast coast was the deal again. Got me my biggest as shown in the picture above coming in a 5.37lbs. Best five for the day went 15.01lbs. Hard bottom with rocks in 10-20ft of water adjacent to a steep bank or point was where I found all my fish.

Water is very clear and cooling down fast into the 60s. Try to find the bluegill or perch schooling anywhere in 8-12 ft and bass should be near by. A lot of the grass is dying but if you can find the green stuff near the baitfish that is a bonus. They are not as stacked up as summer time so just cover water and move if you’re not getting bit.

Early fall kayak trip where I found bass relating to submerged stumps & vegetation or flooded shoreline brush. Pitched finesse jig n pig to target most fish hit on initial fall or first hop away from cover. Biggest bass of day (picture) took jig just as it hit the water for a topwater-like hit. Great fall day on the water in a waning open water season.

A favorite presentation/bait once water reaches 50 deg ... working 1/2 black (or black with other colors) single blade spinnerbait with trailer over, through or around patches of submerged vegetation especially in low light conditions. Vary retrieve (slow roll, pulsed, yo-yo) and let the bass tell you what they want. This one wanted a slow-rolled spinnerbait, popping the bait through grass when it made contact. Have a follow-up bait like a t-rigged senko for short strikes.

Day out on the pond where four baits produced fishing around different types of cover: pads, submerged weeds, docks and shoreline brush/laydowns. Spinnerbait, t-rigged senko and popper drew bass from edges of pads, docks and shoreline brush/trees while the squarebill crank drew strikes after ripping bait through submerged grass patches.

Late season stop to a favorite bank spot produced two largemouth; one on a white chatterbait and the other on a 5" Texas-rigged senko worked through patches of submerged lily pad stems and grass. The chatterbait was fished on the casting rig using a yo-yo type retrieve while the senko was fished on the spinning outfit and was dead-sticked after pulling out of stem patch.

Work Texas rigged, unweighted Senko along weed lines with a lift fall retrieve. Additional strikes can be enticed using a jerk-pause retrieve by both bass and pickerel

Lots of bass hang around the numerous lay downs scattered at various locations along shoreline. Texas rig a 5" green pumpkin or watermelon unweighted Senko and closely watch line. Bass often grab bait as falling the head off to deeper water.
