Got on the water with Nathan Mountain. Check him out, Nathan Mountain Outdoors, super good dude. Put us on fish when we didn’t see many other folks catching. Found them on rocky points typically around brush. Ott Defoe even ran past us, so you know we were in the right area. Saw some crappie scopin’ but they were very finicky and wouldn’t commit. Fun and beautiful day on the water!

The Chickamauga bass are up shallow and schooling! If you want an exciting day on the water I recommend heading up into 3-5ft of clear water and using your sunglasses to see them. I found multiple schools of 4-8 fish up shallow and would catch them on the top water posted above. This time of year clear water is key so if you can’t find it leave.

Wash fishing stumps in shallow water. Started noticing small blowups in the water. Decided to change to the spinning rod with the baby shad and a 6th Sense Pecos under spin. This guy nailed it on the first cast. Got two more before having to call it quits. They are definitely watching undersized baits. With spinner bait with willow leaf baits were a bust in the same area.

Not many bites at all today. Caught this one by flipping into partially submerged grass patches near shallow points. Flipped in and made two cranks on the reel and this sucker nailed it.

I just fished a tournament out on Chickamauga earlier in September, and let me tell you, it was tough. I spent a lot of my time targeting main river grass where I caught limits, but all of my fish were hardly legal. After talking to the top finishers, it was evident that the key to getting a good bite out there was to actually find shallow muddy water. This lake has seen a ton of pressure this year, and the only way to get consistent bigger bites was to target areas where these fish couldn't get a good look at the bait. This muddy water could be found in the very backs of the creeks, and ripping a chatterbait or squarebill around in these areas yielded the best numbers and quality. The water was just starting to drop at the time of the event, and the grass began topping out. However, the good frogging mats had not developed yet.

Shad are running in some thick schools still. Hot during the day and getting cooler at night. Tried hard jerk baits and no luck. They wanted the soft jerk bait action. Caught 5 total like this. In the shallows chasing the shad to the back. Early morning bite was good, slowed down to little or nothing in the afternoon.
