Wind was brutal, but found some calmer areas. Targeted weed line edges near deeper water and structure with finesse setups.

The Whopper Plopper size 90 in bone color was a killer bait for pike and bass on East Rush Lake. I fished the far south end of the lake. It’s shallow and has lots of submerged weeds where the bass and pike like to hide. I could see areas between the taller weeds that created openings to pull the top water bait through without hooking weeds on a retrieve. This part of the lake only gets to about 4 feet deep. On this day, the winds stayed low for about 3 hours and thrill of blow ups and catching fish was irresistible. I caught lots of bass, the biggest being the 20” toad shown in the pic. WOOHOO! :)

Frog bite is heating up on the chain. Went out for a hot morning rip. Boated about 12 bass, had about 20 blow ups. One rod on the deck. Probably could have cleaned up with a Texas rig or fluke after the misses. Bluegills are crazy everywhere. Saw them getting blown on top of the mats from the bass. Fun to watch.

The frog bite is just starting. Most blow-ups came on the outside edges of the lily pads.

Found fish deeper than I expected today. Fish were caught on weed transitions in 8-14' of water. Areas with cabbage were quite productive. Most fish were caught on drop-shot in the morning. Once the clouds moved in the fish became more scattered, so I switched to a ned rig to cover more ground.

Fan casting a 6" mag draft in 6 to 8 feet on flats got some bites and would reveal where fish are hanging out. Then working through those areas with a 1/2oz lil magnum jig got some additional bites.

They were chasing bait out deep over matted grass. Covering water with a chatterbait seemed to get the biggest bites.

Had a great day on the Cass chain. Best 5 went 23 pounds, all caught frogging and flipping. There's a ton of water out here, so be prepared to burn a lot of gas. Look for some current this time of year, as that's where the baitfish are relating with this warm weather.

Throwing a ned rig around on my BFS casting setup yielded numerous decent fish. Primarily targeted <10ft of water where submerged vegetation and rock / hard bottom met.

Dragged a swim jig on the bottom in an area of submerged vegetation, hard bottom, and rock. This tactic produced a number of decent bass, biggest being 4lbs 8oz.
