It was a very slow day fishing flooded willows and bushes, but the wacky rig still got bit. Once the sun was up skipping as far into the shade as possible was key. The Owner weedless hook was critical to not getting hung up deep in the cover.

I was able to get on a couple different patterns. I started the morning off covering water with topwater, chatterbait, and squarebill. I was catching good numbers of small ones on the bank but no size. So I moved out due to the water falling over the last week (0.75 ft) thinking maybe they had slid out to 4-10 foot. I started catching some small keepers skipping docks but not the size I was needing to win. Next I moved out to isolated brush piles in 8-12” and caught a 5.08 with the Texas rig. I didn’t have enough piles marked to run this pattern all day but kept looking for more near docks due to the sun coming out. I never got another good one in the boat but I think if you have piles found in that depth range and would run them all day you could put a quality bag together. Also think topwater bite will get good soon…….just need water to stabilize and have some more cool nights for it to get going. If you just want bites I would throw a squarebill and cover water. I probably caught 10 fish in the first 30-45 min but the biggest was 12”.

Decided to try a flippin rig with the grass getting dense at the surface and hydrilla below. Had to clean the lure a fair bit, but caught two bass without too much bother. Almost always one pounders here.

I was trying a few bait that mimics a small bird, but after that caught the attention of a large and aggressive water snake I switched over to a tried and true Senko. I came up with a new rigging for it, but only caught some smaller fish. I broke that hook off on either an aggressive brush pile or a snapper. After that I went back to a traditional wacky hook and rig. It was a tough go with the current algae blooms, but I saw this guy come in and hit it and miss in the murk. I threw it in again adding as much vibration as I could and he nailed it. Right around 1.3 pounds and I can honestly say I never caught a dirtier fish.

Ran a spinnerbait not listed here, but matching the Strike King with a small Zako and a trailer. The small zako barely extends past the end of the skirt but gives it more mass for the fish to vacuum in and it protects the trailer hook. I can’t remember when I last ran a trailer, but I’m glad I did this time as each of them was on the trailer. Still missed at least two. It looks like they were basically blasting the minnow schools and swiping at them the first pass then picking up the stragglers. I know one of them struck and got ahold of the blades right up on shore. The biggest one (the picture) was just under 2 pounds. He hit when I got the spinner to go between the brush and the bank. Couldn’t have been 6” of space.

Throwing this on grass lines working it very quickly to get them to react. They were eating it head first which is always a good sign.

Went out of Bucksaw Marina and fished that area of the lake. Was flipping a Motion Fishing Co 3/8oz flipping jig to shallow stumps and trees. Had a shot at a really good bag of fish but the storm and big wind made it hard to feel bites. Square bills were also working well from the bank to about 4ft deep. Seems like those river bass have started to transition into their fall pattern. Lots of bait in the creeks and active fish if you found the right creek. They were on cover that was very obvious the best cover on the bank you were fishing. Hope this helps you if you venture over tot Truman lake soon. Lake is about 2.5 ft low so a lot to most if the trees are showing, now is a great time to learn the lake.
