Was throwing the karashi on a bfs set up around some lay downs early morning, and the largies were nailing it.

Surface activity tapered off as the sun came out. Switched to a small wacky rig and caught 3 bass around 2lbs. I love the action of the Z-man Fatty. The middle joint gives it a little extra wobble!

I noticed elevated minnow activity on the shoreline, so I grabbed my ultralight setup and headed out. Casting parallel to the shore in 1-3ft of water yielded 3 bass (largest was 2.6#), and a few pumpkinseed. Fun morning!

I saw an elevated amount of surface activity, so the goal was to keep the plastic in the upper 2ft of the water, not so much jerking as intermittently reeling quickly. I caught 3 largemouth today in 2 hours weighing 4.2lbs, 2.6lbs, and 1.1lbs.

Fishing the shallow shoreline looking for crappie. None to speak of, but the largemouth bass were out in force, chasing minnows into shallow (<1ft) water.

Wind had the bait blown into the backs of pockets, I ended up finding a wad of bass grouped up tight on a small secondary point waiting on the bait to get pushed through. Cranking across the point lead to several back to back fish including a 6.2 and several 2-4 pounders. When they stopped biting a crank I dragged a Texas rigged drop shot across and picked up a couple extra bites. I ran this across several wind blown pockets and caught fish consistently.

I fish ponds and streams that I can get to without a boat. This pond is located in the Willows, Leland, North Carolina. It is not a private pond, you can park right next to it and fish all around it. This was my PB, 23.5” and weighed 9.2lbs. I was using a 6 inch lizard on a weightless rig with a EWG hook. Just casting out and letting it slowly sink while watching the line for any movement.

Toss a shakey head at the bank about a foot away from laydowns or rock piles. And drag it. The bass seemed to bite it about 4 ft from the bank.

Look for steep drop ledges on the main lake in that 25’-40’ contours and scan with electronics looking for larger schools of bass. The smaller schools seem to just be the 1lb to 2lb fish but the larger schools showing 20+ fish will hold a few larger largemouth bass that ate mixed in with the bigger spotted bass. Parallel the ledge with a long cast and keep it in the strike zone by bouncing and slow rolling off the bottom just off the drop. With this depth they bite better and ate not as spooked. Once a few are hooked it often fires up the whole school and will bring up others to the surface as followers. I can’t stress enough of making a long cast and giving your bait a longer strike zone to get them agitated. This is a typical summer bite on most deep lakes and should produce bites until the lake temps start to drop.
