The water was very dirty. No bites on green pumpkin senko. Switched to the black with blue flake and the bass began to bite. Threw the wacky rig on the edge of a moss / weed edge. On the initial drop, this 2lb 9oz bass hit.

2nd and 3rd tourneys of the year for Colorado Kayak Bassmasters. 1st day was rough - 1 smallie caught on a neko rig right up against the shore. Day two went a lot better. Most fish landed (and all the largies) were right up against stumps sitting right on shore with a lot of offshoot branches. Usually bit within a handle crank or two. Some of the smallies were sitting in about 6' of water along similar shoreline cover or on isolated weed/grass patches. Was a very aggressive bite. Fishing from 6' out to the middle of the cove caught some walleye. Also, ended up with about a 28" catfish right up against the bank along some floating wood.

I found them on laydowns. There were a ton of little bluegill up shallow so I put on a bluegill fire 6th Sense Prawn (prawn was not an option to pick for hot bait, but crube is good too). The fish are thick and healthy. I likely could’ve caught more if the wind didn’t blow out some of the other laydowns. Still a fun day!

I got out late morning and it was HOT (feels like temp of 110), humid, and calm. I knew I wasn’t going to have much luck on moving baits so I stuck a flipping rod with a Texas rig and a jig in my hand and went to work. I found the bigger/more aggressive bites on the Texas rig and jig and then picked off all the remaining fish with the Neko rig. Fun day on the water and forgot all about the heat with the fish biting!

I found them on 2 underwater points that were right next to each other with a deep crankbait. It seemed like they had the perfect combination of sparse grass and rock for cover as well as the hard/high spots of the points for structure. It was one of the only places on the lake I could get bit as the brushpiles were not productive for me. Fun day on the water!

The Lake is filled with tons of young of the year SHAD. The key to this tourney was finding coves with lots of bait+timber. Early in the morning, throw the magdraft right up against the shore as they'll be pushing bait up shallow. mid morning, try throwing it in the middle of the creek/cove in 0-8ft of water, the Magdraft will call the fish in. during the middle of the day, throw a big glide bait. they bass went crazy for the glide regardless of the size or shad around. Wherever you find bait balls, the Great lakes finesse Sneaky Underspin with the drop minnow as a trailer will allow you to stick out but still keep the right profile, action, and vibration! Good luck!

The water was HOT so finesse aka the Neko was the ticket. I found all of my fish around wood lay downs. The bite was much better earlier in the morning due to how hot it was. A lot of bites came on the fall, so mainly just dipping and dunking the old Neko.
