Saw a lot of movement in the spatterdock and caught a few flipping/punching near high tide. After the tide went out, caught more on an ozark rig stickbait with a screw lock spinner on the tail along grass edges.

Fished the evening on the Potomac. Fished the last of the incoming and the start of the outgoing before daylight ran out. The tide didn’t give us the greatest conditions (last couple hours of outgoing would have been best). I found some success throwing a watermelon red Fluke in the submerged grass and twitching it through. I throw my flukes on my jerk bait/light crankbait rod. I use a snap with the fluke on the superline hook and still get great action on the bait. Light breeze and partly cloudy skies.

Tried fishing throughout mid-day and afternoon with crankbaits of various diving depths. Didn’t have any luck with the crankbaits so we switched over to 4” Senkos. Started fishing points of the lake as well as 1-2 feet off the banks and under brush. The bites continued to pick up as the evening went on and lasted until around 9pm.

Fished pads at low tide with a frog. Caught a few, missed a few. The usual frog fishing. Moved out to sparse grass bay and threw the cut r worm past chunks of grass. Reeling the worm about as slow as I could. Caught a couple of shorts on a dropshot too but nothing culled.

Fished a club tournament on the Lower Potomac River and caught numerous largemouth bass on a combination of lightly weighted 4" Yamamoto Senkos in Fire Craw and Berkley 7" Power Worms in Blue Fleck. Bass were positioned next to scattered clumps of grass, specifically eel grass and milfoil. The bite was aggressive for the first 45 minutes as the tide was going out. The bite slowed significantly once the tide stopped moving out and during slack tide. The bite slowly picked up again as the tide began rolling in and continued until the tide went slack again in the early afternoon. I was fortunate enough to get a sample/test pack of Mustad Alpha Point Alpha-Grip Finesse Hooks from Omnia a month ago, and they have become my go-to hook. Don't let the "Finesse" tag scare you - these hooks are super sharp and super strong!

Caught a nice 4lb 7oz bass on a wacky rigged senko. Purple Emerald flake is an absolute killer in summer on the Potomac.

Fished Nanjemoy Creek off the Potomac River. Water was muddy, with about 4” visibility. Dark colors with noise/vibration seemed like my best option, so I turned to the Jackhammer. Fished grass edges and overtop of Hydrilla.

Fished hard cover first thing in the morning with moving and slowbaits, topwater to dragging bottom with no sigificant bites. Moved to a grass flat near high tide at 0900 and caught our first fish ripping a chatterbait out of the grass. The bite felt more like grass than a fish for the first bit. Pattern continued until near low tide, when the bite shifted to more subtle baits. Best bite at that point was a Yum Dinger on an Ozark rig with a small spinner blade attached to the tail. Swim it through the sparse grass, "ripping" it out when it gets caught. The bite continued to be subtle and hard to distiguish from grass. Managed 6 fish caught, 1 got off, 5 best weighed 13.5#.

Find the grass and just start throwing, wacky rigs worked well for me but swim jigs and drop shots produced. Can’t go wrong really, chatterbaits caught a few. Frogs in matted grass.

Fishing Mattawoman creek off the Potomac River. Couldn’t get bit on a moving bait, so I had to slow down and fish the grass edge with a wacky rig. Water was crystal clear and watermelon red magic works well in those conditions.

Water was pretty clear. Didn’t catch large ones but caught a bunch on Googan Rattlin Ned. Also caught late in afternoon on topwater. Great day!

Top water bite was on at the Potomac. I was working a Rapala Skitter Walk because I like the size and action better then a spook. We were fishing grass flats in 3’-5’ of water. Guy I was fishing with was throwing a pop-r and he caught them too, but they definitely preferred the walking bait that morning. I caught a few on the black Canterbury buzz toad as well, but there is something about “walking the dog” that is just more fun when you get that blow up.
