We looked for deep rock spines around the lake and threw light Ned rigs. We caught a number of species, but mainly largemouth bass. Most fish hit on the drop. We kept moving and picked up a few fish in each location.

We targeted wind-blown weed lines. Even with a substantial wind, keeping the jig light allowed us to work the bait through the weed edges and connect with some nice walleyes. The fish seemed to follow the bait almost to the boat at times.

Caught a few 4.5 and on 5lb’ers on the flats in the grass beds. They were all over the 6” unrigged cull shad. I rigged with the 1/4oz weighted hook to keep it down around 3-4ft. The flat was around 4-6ft deep so the cullshad was just off the bottom. Straight retrieve was all it took. Had a great day on a great body of water! Take a look at the perch color and the electric shad for overcast days

Was able to locate Largemouth sitting on cover in 0-9ft of water all day running the same pattern around the lake. Throwing past the cover was key and then working the Bellows Gill back to the targeted laydown or stump / standing timber.

The baits and tools listed are what I leaned on; however I have good information that on top of this bite sequence there was also a productive frog and swim jig bite in the shore line grasses, on top of the offshore submerged vegetation. This is a choice, much of the submerged grasses look like they are dirty, disturbed and not in the best of water and this is the case from Canada Line to Ticonderoga. If you can find cleaner grasses, there are and will be large mouth, but in these areas you are prone to catch more northern pike as well. Smallmouth fishing ended up being a more productive fishing approach for competition purposes.

Week long trip to Champlain, lot of smallmouth up shallow in the clear water feeding actively on yellow perch. Can catch them with a number of techniques, but the fluke was most successful and it was good for a 15lbs day on smallies alone (possibly more if had water to self). Winners caught their fish in 40-60 ft scoping a minnow of various sizes, I finished 19th of 158.
