Backend Software Engineers, are you looking for an opportunity to join a growing team and have an immediate, direct impact on a product? If so, we have an exciting job opportunity for you.

Omnia Fishing is a personalized commerce platform, and we are looking for a Backend Engineer to join our engineering team. As we continue to grow, we need a collaborative engineer to help build out a scalable platform that includes APIs, transactional infrastructure, background job processing, and other backend systems to support our growing features. We offer a small, remote-friendly team that trusts each other to communicate as needed, with a minimum of meetings. Typical new engineers are shipping code within 2 weeks of joining.

We are looking for an engineer who can build and own major production components from the ground up, with a collaborative mindset, excellent communication skills, and a desire to help make great decisions in an empathetic and respectful way. Our ideal candidate should also have a solid understanding of scalability problems and experience building out performant distributed applications on cloud infrastructure.

If you are interested in working on a platform that supports outdoor pursuits, this is your dream job. An interest in fishing is not a requirement, but it is a plus.

What you’ll do:

  • Write well-architected, well-tested and easy to understand services in Ruby on Rails
  • Apply your perspective to help us define and build out the next iteration of features and infrastructure needed for extending out our platform
  • Communicate frameworks and make strategy come to life

What we’re looking for:

  • Capable of building and owning major production components from the ground up
  • A collaborative and growth mindset backed by excellent communication skills and a desire to help us make great decisions in an empathetic and respectful way
  • A solid understanding of problems of scalability and experience building out performant distributed applications on cloud infrastructure
  • Proficiency in Ruby on Rails
  • Experience working with PostgreSQL databases
  • Experience with AWS, specifically EC2
  • Experience with observability tools such as New Relic and Sentry
  • Experience with container deployment and kubernetes is a major plus
  • Ability to deliver high-quality solutions quickly and without mentorship
  • Release at least weekly
  • Unit/integration testing experience
  • Excellent debugging and optimization skills
