Jason Christie's Buzzbait Setup

Published: Updated:

Jason Christie walks through his preferred buzzbait setup and the key components he looks for when putting this combo together.

Video Transcript:

A buzz bait, you know, is set up. It's pretty important. You know, this is a bait that when I stick in my hand, typically it's not a one or two-cast thing, it's an all-day. So you want to be comfortable. And number one with a buzz bait, you want braided line. Your line is going to twist. If you use monofilament or fluorocarbon, it's actually going to twist it until it breaks it. So I use 50-pound SX-1 by Sunline. The braid absorbs the twist. As far as a rod , this is a 7-2 Falcon. It's actually the swim jig rod, but it's a perfect buzz bait rod because as a soft tip, you know, let you load the bait. And also when they come up and get it, you kind of let them take the bait. And then a 7, you know, 3. I like the 7 because it's, you know, it's not, I'm not burning the buzz bait, but also it's fast enough to keep it up on, on top of the water. But the biggest thing about a reel is, is get a reel that fits you, your speed, you know, what you want to, well, anytime you're moving the bait, you want the gear ratio to do the work, you know, faster, you're going to move the bait, faster gear ratio you need.
