North Carolina Fishing Reports

North Carolina provides many different type of fishing opportunities based on its unique geography. With mountains in the west, ocean to the east and many major river systems and reservoirs in between, anglers are presented with a diverse set of lakes and conditions that require a big tackle box. Major regions and categories include the Great Smokey Mountain Lakes like Fontana, Chatuge and Lake Glenville, which are cold and deep and contain cold water species like walleye and trout. Further east, anglers encounter lakes created through dams on the Catawba River like Hickory, Lookout Shoals, Norman, Mountain Island and Wylie. Next is the Uwharrie river that has been impounded into High Rock Lake, Tuckertown, Badin, and Tillery Lakes, all with steadily increasing numbers of quality fish. The Raleigh Durham area includes gems like Falls Lake, Jordan Lake, and Shearon Harris Reservoir. To the north anglers encounter massive lakes created by the Roanoke River dams like Kerr, Gaston, and Roanoke Rapids Lakes. And anglers looking for natural bowls of water that produce big fish can visit Waccamaw and Sutton lakes near the coast. This diversity of landscape and fishing opportunities make North Carolina a fantastic fishing State with something for everyone.
