Paddled to the mouth of Willow Creek and finally landed a spotted bass that follows the rules. (Bass Lake in California is a tough place to fish-infuriating at times.) I stuck to the Zoom fluke but changed colors and the payoff was near instant. I had to cut the outing short but plan to return at dusk this evening.

The inlet to Bass Lake is featuring high water and fast current. I wasn’t up to the task to the two bass that struck my unweighted “Texas Rig”. My hook set was inadequate. But 3 aggressive rainbow trout 12-15” obliged nicely. I was surprised at how these fish attacked the long swim bait but I’ve said for years that fish in Bass Lake don’t follow the rules.
