Very fun lake to fish. Lots of fish. Mainly catch them frogging. That rod is the best Frog rod I've ever felt. It's not a medium heavy and more of a heavy extra fast which is amazing for frogs. Pair that with an Slx Xt which is an outstanding budget reel amd go to work. TIGHT LINES!

Big Lake is one of a couple lakes in the Bemidji area with cane, which is some of the thickest cover in the state. Big bass love the cane, but it can be a pain to flip. Fish tend to go really deep into cane, which calls for heavy gear. I use an 8.1:1 reel, a 7'6 heavy action, 65 pound braid, 3/4oz weight and a craw tube. The craw tube is really important because it has a very streamlined profile, which comes through cover really well. These aren't the most durable bait though, so I'd recommend grabbing 25 pack or even bigger. Tight lines!
