The blue gill are on beds and the largemouth bass are trolling the weeds looking for an easy target. I caught bass the last two days starting 5/20/22 on all of these baits. The predominant bait was Big Bite Baits 4" craw tube in green pumpkin, 4/0 hook and a 1/4 ounce tungsten weight. I worked this as best I could near in and through the weeds to get the bites.

Started the morning with checking everyone in for the tournament. We got 32 anglers signed up and 90% of them most of had a planned cause once they were all checked in almost everyone was all gone to their launch area. There were a few other anglers that stayed behind some of us didn't know where to go exactly so we decided just to launch at HQ and pray we can catch some fish. Started scanning the water and like what I was told this lake was full of grass making it hard to even use the mirage drive to travel. As I was getting close to this small island I notice Travis Johnson landed a fish not too far away from me soon after fishing time started. I figure that was a good sign. By this island the bottom was sandy and a deep hole of about 7ft or so. So I grabbed my Dobyns Rods champion XP 735 Glass rod paired with my Shimano Curado DC and casted my zman chatterbait. Right across from me was another angler who just hooked up as well. While reeling in something just slammed my chatterbait. I knew it was something big but didn't feel like a largemouth at all. So I figure it was a big pike. As it got closer it surface up and my god It was a giant small mouth! Instead of trying to stay calm I panic and reached out for my net. Got my net right by me, next thing is to get the bass closer. In my mind I need to get that fish in asap! So instead of playing it slow I force the fish closer to me and snapped my line right by the yak! Boy was I pissed, I just lost a smallie that could of easily been 6# and up for grab for big bass. Not only that I also lost my only black and blue jackhammer. So I grabbed my tackle box to see what I have left. Luckily I ordered some chatterbait from Omnia Fishing for this tournament but just in different color. But since that was all I had I figure I'll use it and just use a black and blue strike king rage tail as my trailer. Maybe less than 10 minutes in the same area I got another hit. I made sure to slow myself down and was able to land my first bass which was a largemouth. Got it in the kayak took a picture and let it go. Next cast I got another hit! This time it was a bit bigger and right away I knew this was a smallie so I adjusted my drag and was able to net it. Caught, Picture and release to cast it in. A few more cast and then another one and another one! Caught all 4 fish within 45 minute of starting time. But the bite seem to stopped afterwards when it got windy and cold again. Half an hour later I landed another largemouth not too far from the island. And was able to limit. Smallest fish so far was 14inch. I figure If I can cull that one I might be looking pretty good. So I went back to the Island and landed another 16.75 largemouth to cull my smallest fish. After that fishing was rough. I tried moving different location but the grass was so high and the lake was longer than I thought it was that I ended not going as far as I wanted. I did managed to catch more largemouth but nothing big enough to upgrade. All afternoon was tough and I thought If I did this good more anglers probably did the same. Turns out my morning fish was able to hold off and took home the win and Big Bass of a 20 inch smallie!
