TechniqueLive Bait RigsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureStumpsCrappie were up on shore near stumps and weeds. We were throwing a small jig head with live crappie minnows right on top of their beds. Before the minnows we used the same jigs with an artificial grub on it. Caught about 40 crappie over 2 days

TechniqueFinesse Hair JigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureStumpsWater temps approaching 50 degree the smallies are starting to move closer to shore. Fish could be found in 12'-8' of water in sand rock transitions with stumps in the area. targeting stumps would almost always guarantee a bite. Slow dragging hair jigs picked off the roamers in the flats and transitions while finesse jigs and ned rigs were more effective near stumps. Color of the hair jig didn't make a difference. Using lighter braided line resulted in longer casts to cover more water and helped keep the boat away from scaring the fish. 360 imaging played a large role in making accurate casts on the transitions and dropping baits on stumps. Fish caught varied from 1lb-3lbs but if you want to catch a ton of bass this is the place to do it.

TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationSpent the week camping and fishing on the Chippewa Flowage. Tough fishing in the heat. Most success covering a lot of water on grassy shorelines throwing shallow for the reaction bite. Had one nice 16' 2.2lb largie doing so. Chucking the flashy swimmer with a paddletail through the grass was very effective in covering water. Extremely weedless. Also had success fishing smallies on grasslines and submerged wood with jerkbaits. My advice if you want to fish largies: take the boat ride to Crane Lake and you won't be disappointed. Much clearer and much less tannic water up there. Great vegetation and laydowns.
