There are still fish chasing herring, but it's hit and miss and I think the warm up has finally done enough to start moving the fish off. I caught fish on a crankbait, a fluke, and a spook, in that order.

The topwater bite on Clark’s Hill continues. We are seeing fish active on points with a few select fish showing up on humps. Cover water and make adjustments with weather conditions as the day progresses.

Points and patience. Lots of twitching and pausing. Lots of follows. Stick with it, and they’ll eat. Water has cooled a little bit, morning bite is crucial to jump on them, then patiently work on upgrades.

The lake has a number of patterns running, but tournament winning bags are being achieved chasing the herring over some other techniques. The fish are beginning their transitions off. There is a good morning bite on points. Up river the fish seem to be a little farther along in their transition then south.

I saw water temps ranging from 74-78 degrees on 5/30/31 on the Georgia side of the lake up creek channels. I was targeting the remaining bluegill beds that I could find in shallow pockets. Even though the shad spawn has completed, I was able to catch a solid limit on a Greenfish Tackle Toad toter buzzbait nickel paired with a Zman Goat Toadz in white in water from 2 inches deep to 4 feet deep. If I got a bite on the buzzbait in a pocket, I would follow that up with the poppin frog to pick apart the area and get a bigger bite.

You can catch fish on most points on the steeper drop side right now. The fish should be there for the next month, and are chewing pretty good. Weather was mostly sunny skies, 6-10 mph winds, and pretty clear water.

Herring weren't pushed all the way up on the points, but the bass were in in 2-5 feet of water ambushing the swimbait bite. Wind was brutal, but the bite was worth it. Once the rain started around 1, the wind died down to be just right and the bite got even better.

If the largemouth bass didn't bite on top of the points, the striped bass would eat it off the points.
