What you need to know about fishing Devils Lake (ND)

Devils Lake is something that anglers dream of. The lake is over 180,000 acres and offers plenty of space for getting away from the crowds. Additionally, daily limits being 5 walleye, 5 northern pike, and 20 perch, anglers can always go home with fresh fish. In addition to the ability to keep your catch, Devils Lake is known to be a destination for straight up catching fish. Whether you are chasing walleyes, perch, or pike, there are plenty of fish and plenty of places to catch them. One of the other main attractions to Devils Lake is that there is no season. If there is a way to get on the lake, safe ice or open water, anglers can target all fish species.

During the ice season, anglers come for the chance at catching lots of walleyes. By using rattling spoons in pink or green, the fish can be drawn in from far distances. Target areas that offer structure such as weeds or standing timber. Perch can be hard to stay on top of, but when you do find them they will be fast and furious. Their schools of fish move constantly throughout the day and if your bite slows down, keep drilling holes until you find the school again. Northern Pike are often aggressive and are most efficiently targeted using tip ups.
