What You Need to Know About Fishing Grand Lake O' the Cherokees

Located in Northeast Oklahoma, Grand Lake was created in 1940 when the Pensacola Dam was installed on the Grand River to create the nearly 60,000-acre Lake. Grand Lake has a maximum depth of 164 feet with an average depth of about 36 feet but fluctuates in water level based on dam control factors like rain events upstream. The largemouth and smallmouth bass fishing opportunities are plentiful but no aquatic vegetation growth in the Lake due to its deep rocky bottom. In addition, to be ranked as a top bass fishery, Grand Lake contains crappie, white bass, and the prehistoric-looking paddlefish.
