I went out to try some crappie fishing in some creeks in the upper portion of Lake Guntersville. It was tough at first, water was a little dirty with 18-20 inches of visibility. Checked under a bridge, and only caught a few that were near the bottom. I ran to the mouth of the creek and side scanned some laydowns and found a wad. It was 2 laydowns that had a mat of blown in grass over the tree. There were HUNDRDS under the mat about 20 ft in and unreachable. But there were smaller schools of 10-20 Crappie on the outside edges and swimming about 5 ft down. I casted few different colors at them until finding they wanted the Chartreuse and White to much success. Took home ten good crappie in the 12-13 inch range. All from just casting or dropping on the suspended schools using Active Target to target the bigger crappie..

Deep fish have been biting an Alabama rig really well, especially with smaller swimbaits like that 3" Subtle Tail. Any areas along creek bends with bait have been key.
