TechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSummerStructureMatted GrassGuntersville in the summer means grass, and this trip it was all about the mats. We broke out the heavy rods and started punching thick hydrilla with the Berkley Stankbug. It didn’t take long before the grass started shaking — big bass were buried under there waiting. The hits were brutal, that split-second thump before they tried to bury you back in the weeds. We wrestled out some true Guntersville giants, the kind of fish that make you glad you brought the braid and a stout hook. There’s nothing like that moment when the mat erupts and a big bass comes flying out of it — Guntersville showed out, and the Stankbug got the job done.

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSummerStructureMatted GrassWe caught fishing doing a little bit of everything Monday. We started up river in the morning throwing a frog on the main channel with a few blows up. Went down river and starting fishing docks with grass around them near the main channel and started seeing hundreds of bass between 1-3lbs. Caught one between 3-4lbs and my buddy did as well. We decided to go all the way back into the back of spring creek, we caught fish on a fluke skipping under docks and then we finished out deep on the ledges where some of the big girls are still hanging out. This fish came off a DT 20. Silver and black back, forgot the color name fishing a ditch like we all do on the ledges. Fish the down current side of these ditches and creek channels that drop off into the main channel. All of them are shells beds.
