Fish were pushing shallow around submerged grass patches and bottom transitions. Covering water was key and fish were relocated across the flats. Wind blown areas seemed to be best, and focusing on the outer edge of spawning areas is where the biggest fish were located. During overcast conditions, switching to the Sneaky Underspin was more productive than the ball head. Color also varied each day, depending on water clarity and sun/overcast.

Finding fresh Mayfly slicks and making extremely long casts was key. The bigger Cane Walker let’s me cast the bait an extreme distance and cover water. I fish the bait quickly to try and trigger reaction strikes from post spawn fish feeding on the fresh mayflies. After the mayfly bite slows down, you can fish a hair jig in similar areas to keep catching smallmouth
