TechniqueHard Topwater (Walking)SeasonSummerStructurePointsFish were just at the beginning of the fall topwater bite where they push shad up on shallow main lake points. A bone Sexy Dawg Jr. is my go-to all fall when this bite is on.

TechniqueNed RigsSeasonSummerStructureRiver ChannelsChannel swing/steep gravel banks always seem to hold a few bass that will hit a ned rig--the blue craw Finesse TRD is a staple for me because I think the greenish back and light blue belly look a lot like a shad. On this weekend, with the warm water temperatures, any bank like this that had wind hitting it also had lots of bait being pushed in by the wind, and I caught a 6+ lb. largemouth in addition to several smaller largemouth and smallmouth.

TechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSummerStructureDocksEvery morning in the summer the smallmouth are willing to smash a shock blade. The only thing that changes is the retrieve and the location of the fish. There a handful of retrieves I use. Burning it, slow roll, burn pause and slow roll with a twitch. Sometimes the fish are tight to the bank and in less than two feet of water. This is when I burn the shock blade. Sometimes the fish are deep so slow rolling it is required to get it down deep enough.

TechniqueTubesSeasonSummerStructureShadTowards the middle of the day when the bass stop chasing bait the switch to ambush mode. They are in predictable places like deep cover or shallow shade. These are perfect ambush points for them. These are obvious places to throw your tube. The tube is great because it looks a little bit like everything a bass eats. It can pass for a bluegill, shad or crawfish depending on hot you retrieve it.
