Jack caught a TANK on the old reliable KVD Dreamshot 4-1/4 in the classic KVD Magic color, in addition to another couple aggressive males. Great fishing weekend in Chicago!

The water was very choppy with cloudy skies nothing was getting bit. I threw out a strike king minnow on a bobber and got a couple bites.

Low winds today had spooky smallmouth on the flats cruising. Scared of a splash and of their own shadow it made things tough. launching the little hair jig as far as possible and keeping it mid water column was the best way to get these fish to fire.

Caught another fish on a deep diving crankbait, but they’re officially on their summer patterns as far north as Lake Michigan in Chicago. The new Mustad Alpha points were from the product testing, and they did GREAT. Especially them being weedless dropshot hooks, which I’ve never used before. Super pleased with them!

Spawning smallmouth or in pre-spawn along flats that have points and drop offs. Been doing well dragging a drop shot with 6+ inch leader along the flats if they are not on bed. Not putting much action to the bait, but just slowly dragging it. Prefer leader is seaguar gold, vmc finesse neko size 2 hook.

Utilizing the long rod and a slow falling bait was crucial to my clients getting bites. The little bigger hook on the set up helped the bait fall purely and helped on hooks at the end of a cast our 30+yds. A key move was when one of the guys hooked up the other cast right at that same spot. This resulted in the double in this picture.
