Bass were pretty active most of the morning as we caught them on the outside weed lines and any little structure we could find. As the morning progressed we found that the fish moved shallower and further into the lily pads and grass.

Caught a bunch of fish fishing the corner pockets of docks. Especially if there was a weed edge or a point nearby. We also caught a few pitching and flipping lay downs and undercut banks.

La Crosse unlike many lakes during the spring can be tuff to figure out. Although if you spend enough time down there you will find patterns that work better than others. Submerged shallow grass can allows play, this time of the year in piacular it is fire. You should find a mix of smallmouth and largemouth. If the quality sized fish aren't there right away, I would move on until you find quality. The big fish like to group up!

Having a rod with a light tip and a lot of backbone was crucial, the 7’3 H Victory is perfect for this. Paired with 18lb sunline this was the perfect light flipping setup.

Caught more smallmouth than largemouth on a frog today, first time for everything! Targeted them coming out of spawning bays which put a lot of fish under mats and around pads. Frog was the best way to catch them and made for a super fun bite.

Spawning smallies on hard bottoms with light to no current around rocks.and stumps. Drop shot small tubes to convert catches. Practice catch and release.
