Tossing the chatterbait near grass in 6-10' that was nearby shallow rock got both largemouth and smallmouth bites. They seemed to be most active around the emerging grass lines.

Smallmouth we're pushing schools of bait around in basins and deeper water off various points. Dropping a 3" Hazedong shad in Disco Stain at the fish (using FFS to see them) worked really well. The fish were spitting up small minnows. Smallies would actually often eat the Hazedong on the drop before the bait even reached the bottom. I was using a lead 1/4oz weight so it didn't rocket down too quickly as the fish were not sitting right on the bottom.
