Striped Bass
TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Large)SeasonSummerStructureFlooded BrushTried downsizing to the 4.5” Shadtron gizzard shad when I wasn’t getting any action in the 6” swimbait. Immediately hooked up with two large stripers in a shallow cove where the water was slightly stained. Slowed down the retrieve with occasional pauses. The water is warming up and the fish are getting a little more picky. Still hit these swim baits like a freight train!

TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Large)SeasonSummerStructureFlooded BrushNew favorite swimbait! The slow sink version is the most realistic looking swimbait that I’ve seen in the water. Just a slow steady retrieve with an occasional pause or twitch. Bass hit this thing like a freight train. There are no subtle takes. I really like the way the hook is setup in this bait. The hook “sets” into the top of this swimbait via the line through design, so when the fish hits the lure the hook disengages from the soft swimbait. The fish has no leverage against the lure to throw the hook. Well thought out design! So far the soft body of the lure seems like it will hold up well after several fish. Caught a 10 lb monster to start the day. I’m a believer in this new bait!

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructureHumpsFound isolated fish in 12-16’ on the edges of flats. Got a bunch of Bluegill bites on the Flat worm so switched to the Tube (best bluegill pattern I had with me) and that worked too.

TechniqueTrolling Deep (20'+)SeasonSummerStructurePointsWent looking for boils in the morning did not see any. Trolled some 3 inch swim baits on z man jig heads which has worked well early in the season. But nothing today. Found a good size school amd tried to drop some anchovies but nothing. After this trip going to wait for a week or so and the water should warm up to the mid 80's and we will try the nite bite anchovies under a green light.

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructureReefWent out in the heat of the day. Caught 8 total biggest was approx 2.5lb. Hit every reef on main lake (Bass Bay and Castle Creek) and Zoom trick worm caught 5 on drop shot. Biggest came off reef around 20-30 foot on Bellows Gill hooked up on Free Rig. Biggest fish were all on free rig. 1.5-2.5lb rest were smaller on drop shot. Water is getting warmer so I’d imagine the fish will only go deeper. Also caught a couple striper on 6th sense divine swimbait Pro Shad color. That color ALWAYS produces Striper.
