TechniqueSpinnerbaitsSeasonSummerStructureDocksWe were flipping and pitching along the middle channel of Lake St Clair, looking for bass and ending up with pike. The air temps were matching the water temps, being in the mid 60s with full sun. The water clarity where we were was very good, but very murky elsewhere in the main lake from recent storms. Winds were running high and keeping us close to shore and the canals, but the bite was definitely triggered on the spinnerbaits - especially the War Eagle. This thing gives off a flash and shimmy that really triggers the bite. The chartreuse and white are always a good combo on Lake St Clair for all species and conditions. The Lew’s Pro baitcaster and low profile spool does a great job of pitching and flipping without fear of backlashes. Check out this beast I pulled out of some pilings with it!

TechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationA wacky worm on a heavy drop shot can be an incredibly effective tool to search for scattered Smallmouth in featureless lakes like St-Clair. Short flips 40-50’ from the boat and after it hits bottom retrieve it almost instantly as they usually grab it on the fall. Super efficient and effective on Post spawn and summer pattern smallies.
