TechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructurePilingsWhile the mayfly/fish fly hatch may have some scratching their heads as to how to get the bass to bite while they’re gorging themselves on natures bounty, we were throwing wacky rigs from the shoreline at first light and early morning to get on that feeding frenzy bite!

TechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureLedgesCaught smallies from March 20th-May 20th in a few different areas around St Clair. We focused on finding trenches and rocks, those would hold smallies. Most fish were caught on jerk baits but some ned rig and swimbait was used as well. Typical pre-spawn/spawn baits. Season is about to open for tournaments, looking forward to the summer bite as the fish move off shore and get away from the pressure.

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureRock PileWindy day on St Clair but we stayed out of it mostly in Anchor Bay. Some fish are still shallow as there were many boats still checking beds. We opted to stay between 6 and 9 FOW with drop shots and coffee tubes. Not many big fish today but as usual on St Clair the numbers are phenomenal.

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationFinding deep grass patches in 17-22 fow was key to holding bait and bass. There were big schools of perch mixed in the grass and the smallmouth would key in on the edges of the grass. There were also many walleye in these areas following the bait around. Finding multiple grass patches is important because fish will roam and move with the perch.
