TechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationMyself and my father in law CRUSHED some post-spawn smallies today! We hunted on the outside edges of weed beds between 16 and 14 feet, ticking the tops of our weeds with our chatterbaits, mini maxes, an underspin swimbait, and the occasional drop shot. Water clarity was incredible, and it was a top 5 day out on LSC!

TechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSummerStructureDocksThe heat of the summer is in full swing, but that means that the early morning bite is heating up along sea walls and docks as the baitfish are chased and cornered by largemouth bass looking to feed. Weighted or weightless, the bass are triggered along the weed lines and shadows of the seawalls and docks by the wacky rig presentation. The subtle action of a wacky worm gets bit like crazy right now, so don’t miss out! The YUM Dinger green pumpkin and chartreuse blend really works well in clear and stained water alike. That color combo gives the bait presentation just enough pop to get their attention.

Largemouth Bass
TechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSummerStructurePilingsWith the summer heat in full swing we decided to target largemouth bass in cooler waters at the northern end of the lake, where the St Clair River dumps into Anchor Bay. Along the docks and pilings we found the biggest fish were pushing minnows up into sea wall corners and were ambushing from various shadow points and structure. The Yamamoto Senko is the industry standard when it comes to presenting a slow, subtle action bait. We were rigging them wacky style and couldn’t keep them off! Casting into corners and around pilings found the most takers and early morning at first light had the greatest bite. It slowed down as the sun rose and the heat of the day rose towards 90, but we were still able to get bites.

TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationThe winds were kicking up some heavy chop on Lake St Clair, but there was a great smallmouth bite going on at around 14FOW near the weedlines and transitions from shallower water. 3-5lbers were in the deepest pockets. I was using a 1/4oz swim jighead with a Keitech attached. The color smallmouth magic has definitely been living up to its name this season! Casting out as far as I could away from the boat, giving it time to sink, then a slow and steady retrieve got them biting.
