Due to the cooler temperatures, largemouth bass often seek warmth - ex. grass mats. Today was a classic example of such. Over the past week or so, air and water temperatures have plummeted, and the bass have stacked up in hyacinth/hydrilla mix grass mats. The lure of choice is a frog, with my personal favorite being the River2Sea Phat Mat frog (white or black). The retrieve was very aggressive due to the bass being active in the "Fall Fenzy" (the time of the year when bass "fatten up"). Strikes were extremely aggressive, visible, and almost always resulted in a positive hookset. One important note - these grass mats are canopies, and have no grass, lily pads, etc under them. It is barren, and the bass utilized this as cover.
