TechniqueNed RigsSeasonSummerStructureBouldersCovering water on Leech seems to be the key for me this time of year. So much of the stuff looks good it's almost overwhelming. Look for subtle differences in the rocs and fish SLOW with the hail mary ned. This head is perfect for leech lake rocks. The hook is the perfect size and the football shape prevents hanging up so much. Hit as many spots as you can and you're sure to run into some good ones.

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructureBouldersUsing livescope to figure out which boulders have big smallmouth bass on them. Most of the fish came off of a drop shot bait to represent a little minnow or perch or crayfish

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSummerStructureReedsFished the MN Bass Nation Team Trail event. Big cold front and strong winds changed things up a bit for tournament day. During practice water temps were over 70 but had dropped quite a bit on Sunday. Still the largemouth were active in the rice and pencil reeds in the northern bays. Bays like Steamboat, Sucker, Boy were producing fish on frogs and texas rigged crawfish baits. Fish a texas rigged craw or bass jig on heavy tackle to rip those fish out of the thick stuff. For the rice, fish the edges of the rice beds with a frog or a swim bait right along the edges and around any pockets (be careful not to put your boat in the rice beds). We managed a 4.80lb largemouth out of an area with mixed rice and lilly pads on a top water.

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSummerStructureMatted GrassLots of good fish to be had up shallow this time of year. While there is a lot of great largemouth habitat around the entire lake, fish seem to hold in certain specific areas. Look for tight clumps, points, holes, patches, etc in the shallow cover as a good starting point. One great way to quickly locate these fish is by throwing a walking frog as well as a Teckel Sprinker Frog. I like to throw the Sprinker Frog around places where there is not rice, as the rice will get wrapped up on the tail. Around rice I opt for a walking frog. As far as colors go, white and black both produce depending on the day. The best way to find the right color for the day is just to experiment. Bring your heavy rods and line, and get back in the vegetation!

TechniqueSwim JigsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationJune 17-19 Water temps in the small bays were in the low 70s. I was able to get some good bites slow fishing a swim jig over the top of some submerged grass. The fish seemed to be in the back of pockets but not far from some deeper water, they were mostly post spawn fish feeding on bluegill.

TechniqueNed RigsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureBouldersJune 17-19 Main lake water temps were 65-67. I found smallmouth pulled up on beds next to isolated boulders just off of main rock piles in 8-12ft of water. Slow dragging a Ned rig past these boulders was a good way to get bit.
