Fishing Lilly pads near pencil reeds in 2 to 5ft of water. Was popping the frog on occasion as I reeled it in slowly letting the frogs legs make a wake behind. Fish were biting on the edge of the Lilly pads.

Fished on Little Birch Lake for the first time ever during the Minnesota Fishing Opener. Scouted around the main lake points and found some fish staging near the first contour 'drops' as they were getting ready to push up into the shallow reeds to bed. Found a creek inflow with running water and hard bottom and did most of my catching there. Lots of quality fish in the two pound range with a handful of three pounders mixed in. Dragged a football jig in about 2-3 fow and caught them until they stopped biting every cast and switched over to a Ned rig to pick off some more.
