Blueback Herring
Late summer on Lake Martin means one thing, topwater. Start early on seawalls with a popper for a chance at big largemouth or spot. As the day gets hot and slick, move offshore where you will find schooling spotted bass on blueback herring. Using your electronics, target points, humps, and high spots looking for brush/cane piles. A topwater walking bait is my first choice but as things slow down move to a finesse worm on a shakey-head. Night fishing is your best bet this time of year to escape the heat and boat traffic. Target dock lights with a shakey-head and small swimbait.
