One of my favorite types of cover/structure to target on Mozingo are the numerous historic road beds and trails flooded beneath the lake when impounded in the early 1990s. All of the roadbeds are accessible from boat and many are also accessible from the shore. Working the road bed, rocks, wood and submerged weeds on and around the beds with Texas-rigged soft stickbaits and jigs produce quality bass during the prespawn as well as throughout the open water season. Mozingo has been listed in the top 100 list of Bassmaster's top U.S. bass lakes and given the quality of the fishery it's not a surprise. With three quality launch ramps and numerous shore fishing locations, it's one of the more accessible fisheries in the area.

Brush Piles

Patterned fish in brush piles located on wind-blown main lake and secondary points in 12-18’. Fish were holding very tight to cover. Best presentation was sinking a shakey head or neko rig finesse worm through the thickest brush on semi-slack line and waiting for a strike. PRO TIP: When sinking a neko rig through brush you want to use a very light nail weight to find perfect sinking rate. 1/32oz worked best for this situation. A chatterbait thrown along outside weed edges produced some small keepers, but larger fish were definitely out deep related to brush.
