Newton Lake (IL)

Newton Lake is about 1,750 acres and is located in Jasper County, Illinois, next to the Newton Power Station. Being adjacent to a power plant, the water tends to stay above freezing and allows fish to grow and feed all year. Species that can be fished for include Black Crappie, Bluegill, Catfish, Largemouth Bass, and White Bass. Newton lake is an exceptional bass fishing lake, likely due to limiting fisherman to 3 fish to keep each day with an 18” minimum. Most Largemouth bass will average in the 15’’-20’’ range (2-6 pounds). Black Crappie can also be caught with good size, as the minimum length to keep is 10”. The promotion of a healthy catch and release practice is what makes Newton Lake special.
