TechniqueHard Topwater (Walking)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureLaydownsPretty simple pattern to run on Norris this time of year. Find a laydown. Throw a topwater in and around the laydown. It's a pattern that can be run all day but early morning and evening are the best times. The water is really clear right now so make as long a cast as possible past the cover and work the bait to it, instead of throwing right on top of it.

TechniqueSpinnerbaitsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureLaydownsWith the wind blowing 20+ mph most of the day slowing down and picking cover apart wasn't really an option. I grabbed a 3/8 war eagle spinnerbait with white double willow blades and just covered water. I caught them off different types of cover but laydowns and trash mats were the main areas. Deflecting the spinnerbait off of limbs or the trunk was key to getting the reaction bite.

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureBrush PilesFished brushpiles in 10 to 20 feet of water around docks. When the lake is pressured, the deeper brush is a good place to catch fish that haven't been beat on all day. A dropshot is a good presentation for this. I use the lightest weight I can get away with on that given day and around a 2 feet tag end so I can keep the bait above the brush. Also less is more when it comes to moving the bait. Once the weight is in the cover just hold it still so there's not a lot of banging against the wood. I use livescope for this but traditional 2D will work fine.

TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureLaydownsThe bass are in all stages of the spawn right now so they can be found about anywhere you want to look. Caught them all throughout the water column on everything from swimbaits and ned rigs to jerkbaits and jigs. The best bait today though was a 3.3 keitech swimbait on a 3/8 dirty jigs guppy head. When the wind is blowing that combo is hard to beat this time of year. When the wind died down a wacky rig and ned rig fished close to laydowns worked good.
