Oneida is the largest lake that is entirely within the state of New York with 50,894 acres. Located ten miles north of Syracuse, there are multiple access points for boat and shore anglers. This lake is relatively shallow with an average depth of 22 ft and a small portion reaching a maximum depth of 55 ft. Walleye and Perch have been long time species to target with Bass coming into the forefront in recent years. Major professional tours have held several tournaments, showcasing what the lake has to offer. Spring and fall Walleye are often caught shallower next to spawning flats and tributaries with blade baits and stick baits being popular choices. Perch can be caught in numbers during the ice season usually in depths of 30 to 40 ft. For bass, smallmouth are often caught near many of the available shoals while largemouth are often targeted shallower where vegetation is present.
