Fished for a week and consistently found smallmouth and some largemouth early up on rocky points feeding on bugs. Having a feather -tipped treble on the back of a popper was a must as most bites were subtle. During the afternoon the bite slowed quite a bit but grass anywhere from 10 to 20 produced bass as well as a wide variety of other species. Biggest bass of the week went 5.4 lbs.

Water temps continue to run behind normal for this time of the year in the Northwoods. We found water temps around 60 degrees. Sunny afternoons seemed to get the pre-spawn smallies cruising around likely bedding areas. We casted small swimbaits to water 6 feet deep or less with a combination of sand/gravel and soft bottom transitions near mainlake points. A slow and steady retrieve was most effective.
