Largemouth BassTechniqueSoft JerkbaitsSeasonSummerStructureBaitfishI had some spots picked out offshore on main lake but the wakeboard boats and jet skis were so bad we couldn’t stay out there. Managed to find a small cove protected from the wake and found a few small fish feeding on Shad. Managed to get two on a weightless fluke and had a couple more followers. Still had a lot of fun despite the lack of fish and wakeboarders. It was hot so we had some fun swimming.
SpeciesLargemouth BassTechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSummerStructureRip RapI fished the third and final stop of the Team Trail Outdoors TX tournament season with my tournament partner Iain on the lake on 06/15/24 and also fished the lake for the official practice day the day before. In practice, we only caught two fish, but they were a 6.1 and a 3 pounder, with the 6 being caught on a main lake point on a 10 inch worm and the 3 being caught throwing a wacky rig in the marina. During the tournament, we caught 1 of our 2.5 pound keepers on the same main lake point we caught the 6 on the day before, but instead of dragging the big worm I caught it scoping with a damiki rig in 22 feet of water. After that, we picked up another keeper in a marina on the south end of the lake, and then ran as far north as we could up into the river and caught the rest of our limit and culled three times fishing a wacky rig and a chatterbait up super shallow (1-3 feet of water) on a rip rap road culvert. We ended the tournament in 23rd place out of 188 teams with 14.10 pounds (limit pictured with the report) and snagged the last spot inside the money! We also slid up to 5th place out of over 150 teams in the AOY race for the year! The water temperatures on the lake that day ranged from 82 degrees on the south end to 88 degrees up in the river, and water clarity ranged from 3-10 feet of visibility on the south end and half a foot to 1.5 feet of visibility on the north end. It was a bright and sunny day, with morning temperatures starting in the mid 70's and warming up to the mid 90's by day's end, and a steady southeast wind at about 15 mph throughout the day! Finding clean water is key right now! Look towards the backs of the creek channels to find areas where clean water is flowing into the lake. There will be a small school of fish hanging in the mud line. Fish these areas with a finesse setup (weightless senko wacky-rigged). As the sun rises, the bigger fish will cruise the deeper reed beds. Look for reeds that end in 3-5 fow. (Wind-blown reed beds will be best.) Pick these apart for the larger bites.

In an attempt to cover lots of water I was slow rolling the Magdraft parallel to the openings of docks. Aggressive fish will come out.

I've found it common for them to be on the tops of trees offshore in the summertime feeding on shad balls. Trees were in 30 ft but 15ft tall, so run your crankbait at 15ft just ticking the top and they come out and smash it every time. Deep offshore points with trees and islands.

When they aren't feeding on shad in the tops of trees offshore, you can find them on the rock quarry deep in 15-20ft of water. Work your shaky head down the rock hill on the side faster than normal and they will hit the fire out of it as you come down the rock.
