I spent everyday from 10/04/23 to 10/07/23 on the lake practicing for and competing in the first Collegiate Bass Trail of Texas event for the 2023-24 season. I've spent a lot of time on the water recently both before and after that event, and a lot of it has been pretty tough, so I haven't been writing as many reports as I usually do, but my week on PK was pretty good for the most part. In the three practice days, the weather was still fairly warm, with lows in the 70's and highs in the high 80's and low 90's, bright sun, and a slight breeze out of the southwest. During those three days, the bite on PK was phenomenal. Me and my college tournament partner Jacob were catching them from sun up to sun down on nothing but a spook in the back halves of creek arms along creek channel swing banks, or in smaller main lake pockets with steep contours in them almost setting up like a drain. If there was timber along the rock banks in these areas, that was the best spot to get bit, and we got bit on the spook in 3 feet of water, and in 30 feet of water. The bass were chasing suspended balls of baitfish around in these areas and they were absolutely crushing the topwater, we were catching 15-18 pounds a day on our best 5 without even really having to try that hard, and our biggest of the week went 5 pounds and 4 ounces (pictured with the report) that Jacob caught in 3 feet of water on the spook underneath a dock along a steep rock bank. It was a great week, but unfortunately the tournament didn't go the way we wanted it to, as a massive cold front came in the night before the tournament and dropped the water temperature down in the lake from 78-80 degrees all the way down to about 72 degrees, while the outside temps dropped about 25 degrees on both ends and the wind switched directions and started blowing out of the northeast. After this, the topwater bite went away completely, and we caught our tournament fishing throwing a KVD 1.5 hard knock squarebill in the same areas we had been fishing in practice. This pattern produced 2 keeper bites that weighed a little over 5 pounds and 2 short fish, which got us 48th place out of 89 teams in the event. Definitely not what we wanted and not the standard we hold ourselves too, but overall it was a fun week on PK and I can't wait to get back out there in a week for the TTO championship. If the weather is stable, the topwater bite on PK right now is INCREDIBLE! If you want to see some of the footage of the topwater action that week, be sure and go checkout my youtube channel "Metroplex Bass Addicts" and look for the most recent video on Possum Kingdom!

Pretty tough fishing conditions. A cold front moved through the middle of the night. The top water bite was non-existent. I had a couple of bass swipe at the Berkley Choppo but no takers. After searching around the only area I could get a bite was an area that had tree lay downs around rocks with overhanging tree shade cover with the silver squarebill.
