      Flooded Brush

Decided to rent a boat from MarDon Resort for the day so I fished from approximately 9am to 6pm. Tough day, I spent most of the day wacky rigging a 4in green pumpkin senko towards the northwest side of the reservoir. Caught one largemouth bass around 10am tossing next to some of the flooded brush/grass. Caught one big yellow perch doing the same around 12:30pm. Switched to the ned rig around 4pm since I was going to go target smallmouth by the dam, but decided to throw it at one last stop for largemouth and managed to catch this nice 3lb fish. The fish hit my lure somewhat deep in the flooded brush. I had overshot my cast and just got it unstuck from some of the sticks when I got hit. I think that meant the fish were pretty deep in the cover, but I didn’t have heavy enough gear to throw jigs in and pull fish out. Finished the day by fishing for smallmouth for an hour by the dam and caught a handful of small ones pretty quickly in deeper water aligned with the boat, maybe 25-50ft away from the dam itself. Guy at the tackle store said that I might have luck with largemouth bass in the middle of the day if I targeted deeper water since the dunes drop off pretty quickly, but I wasn’t able to get any hits trying that. If I had a depth finder/good contour map that would’ve helped a lot with knowing where to cast to hit those ledges.

Found lots of good fish outside of crab creek dunes. Dragging 3/4 football head jig with HulaGrub or similar bait. Find the ledges in the sand and cast out and drag slowly. You will feel the waves of the sand. 3-15 feet deep. Also caught a bunch on crank baits along the rocks
