TechniqueNeko RigsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationFished the Anglers Choice Northern division Sunday on Shawano. Fish seemed to be in all three phases: prespawn, spawn, and post spawn. The majority of fish were in the prespawn or spawn, though, with a few early bedding fish done. Bite was very tough and size was incredibly hard to come by. Finished 8th place with 11.6 pounds, less than a half of a pound from third place, which was just under 12 pounds. The top two spots were over 15 pounds. We caught a majority of our fish in the tournament on trick worms and creature baits in the weeds. In practice we caught some on chatterbaits, zoom ultra vibe speed worms, one good one on a jig (pictured), and senkos as well. We found some beds in practice, but we didn’t have a great boat draw so we stayed a little deeper looking for staging fish.

TechniqueFinesse JigsSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationWe worked wind-blown weed lines with light tungsten jigs and northland eye candy plastics. We caught northern, largemouth, bluegill, and walleye. The key was throwing into the weeds and slowly working it out across the edge.

TechniqueNed RigsSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationWe worked weed lines and specifically the areas where the weed line came to a point further out than the surrounding edge. You could see fish stacked up just outside the weed edge. Ned rigs are one of the most versatile baits out there. You can catch just about any species on them. The ticklerz last all day no matter what fish you’re catching.

TechniqueNed RigsSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationConditions were flat calm and blue skies today. I concentrated on sharp breaks with good weed lines. I saw a few fish busting out over deep water, but couldn’t get them to commit to anything. All my fish came ripping the Ned rig out of the weed edge.

TechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSummerStructureDocksWe started fishing weed lines but boat problems pushed us shallow onto docks. We had some action on docks but no size to be found. All in all a disappointing day as I lost a decent fish on a lipless in the weeds early so it could have been a better day.
