Casting small profile swimbaits with a little flash proved to be more effective than the 3-4" swimbaits. The Shimano Mastiff line has proved to be a very durable line, and holds up after landing multiple fish.

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructureHumpsMid-morning kayak trip. Dead summer has made the bite slow. Working boringly slow drop shots along the humps and vegetation lines was the most effective. Bass were keying in on smaller baitfish. Tested out the weedless Mustad Alpha point drop shot hooks for this trip. Hook is sticky and weedguard is a good mixture of preventing snags while not interfering with the hookset.

TechniqueNed RigsSeasonWinterStructureRock PileIcy roads and winter conditions may stop me from traveling, but not from hitting the local pond. If you have cabin fever like me and crazy enough to get out there, bundle up and take the finesse gear. I had success with Ned rigs, with absolutely NO ACTION. Cast it out and let it fall to the bottom, let it soak for 15-20 seconds and drag it slower than slow. The bass are either near the rocks to keep warm or have their bellies in the mud.

TechniqueSwim JigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureSubmerged Vegetation15mph wind gusts and 1-2ft visibility make it hard to throw anything light (under 1/4oz). Heavy jigs (1/2oz and up) with trailers that kick drug along the grass line was productive for hooking into the pre-spawners looking to fatten up, Texas rigged creature baits in to rock piles was also effective.

TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonFallStructurePointsWith the cold front coming in, bass are moving up the creek and to creek mouths feeding on the baitfish. The bite is good with paddle tail swimbaits, flukes, swimjigs, bladed jigs, and crankbaits in the deeper creek channels. Dropshots with "half shell" type baits and smaller worms that will mimic bait fish are effective when the bite slows down.
