TechniqueNed RigsSeasonSummerStructureBouldersNed rigs were most successful around rocky points, islands and rock spines. I used a 1/10 oz Z-Man ned lockz hook with a black/blue flake finesse TRD. I throw my ned rigs on a Dobyns Xtasy 723c with a Tatula SV 70 reel spooled with 15 pound Seaguar red label. I threw a Reaction Innovations smallie beaver around undercut brush islands. I rig them on a 2/0 Gamakatsu EWG superline hook and 1/4 oz tungsten. I thrown them with a Dobyns Champion Extreme 704c casting rod, Tatula SV103 casting reel and 20 pound Seaguar red label flourocarbon. Last I found a frog bite in shallow grass and reed lines fishing a Spro Bronzeye frog on 70 pound test Daiwa Samurai Braid. Rod is a Dobyns Champion Extreme 746c paired with a Tatula 150.

TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationI fished Turtle Flambeau from August 24th - 27th for my Kayak Fishing Championship 2 day tournament. The weather was cool and water temps ranged from 68-72. There was lots of sunken wood logs and rocks. I found my best and biggest bites in the river part of Turtle River along weed edges. I had a 3inch megabass spark shad in green pumpkin on a 1/4 oz ball head jig hook and would cast it parallel with the weed lines that would have drop offs into deeper water. 9 out of 10 times the fish would grab it on the fall or when I would swim it for a short while after hitting the bottom. The bite only lasted maybe 2 hours and then the Pike started to steal my lures. After that, I would throw a weighted Z Man TRD in the Green Pumpkin Goby like a senko and let it sink to the bottom along the weed edges. Then give it a slow pop up, and they would hit that as well. There were other species that would be caught using the spark shad including Pike, Perch and Walleye. The smallies fought like CRAZY so you couldn't horse them up unless you had braid/heavy line tied on.
