CrappieTechniqueCrappie Sniping (Casting/Single Poling)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureLaydownsWe used live minnows and tried jigs but it was too calm and the power house wasn’t generating. We caught several good ones and my wife caught her PB at 16 1/2” (didn’t have a good scale so we just measured it). Tru-turn hooks claim to have a better hook up ratio I haven’t seen that but I have seen that it comes out of cover easier and a beat up red hook definitely gets more bits than standard gold. I pair it with 16 lb test mono when fishing in heavy cover for the occasional snag. The larger line allows you to bend the hook out versus breaking it off.

CrappieTechniqueCrappie Sniping (Casting/Single Poling)SeasonSummerStructureLaydownsCrappie were in lay downs over 20’ of water but only remained above the 12’ thermocline. The bite was better if you can find lay downs or brush piles in a creek channel vs a flat. Z-man shad fryz is a great catch all bait, crappie love them slow rolled higher in the water column, bream will eat them well. Also, you get the occasional bass and catfish surprise catch.

Largemouth BassTechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructurePointsEarly morning we only got a few short strikes on top water followed up by switched over to a spinner bait with painted willow blades to get some keepers with a really nice 3 pounder. As the sun rose and temperatures started to rise we started targeting windy points with willow grass. We used chartreuse square bills attacking the points from various angles with a little over 15lb bag for our best 5.

Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonSummerStructureBrush PilesGot to the river late, I tried a few areas on the main river with no success. As the temperature started to rise I made my way to the back of a small slough the water temp was 4 degrees cooler. I used a Texas rig Senko and June bug shakey head to put some fish in the boat.
