The smallies were moving around boulders in 10-12 feet of water. It was clear so long casts were the key to catching them. It was also raining so they were moving all over the place and it was a great day.

Numerous bass were on beds up shallow. Watched this guy chase off carp school after carp school from his bed. Casted to the bed from about 50 feet away (water was pretty clear, needed the distance) and watched him come over an eat the bait. Plenty of aggressive bass with some skittish and sluggish bass. Spawn in full swing!

Fished a SATT event out here and had 23 for 7. I was casting a large swimbait around and that produced the biggest bites. Also would flip the reeds and there were fish all over them on beds and also roaming. The green pumpkin color was a key to getting the bites in super clear water.

Fishing was tough in the evening. The fish were chasing shad balls all evening, but they weren't too interested in what I was throwing. I caught a few smaller bass on spinnerbaits and swim jigs, but the biggest bass caught finally came on a buzzbait at sunset.

Fished for 5 days in the crazy 25 MPH winds everyday. Fishing was tough but got 3rd in the Wednesday Nighter with just over 13#'s for 3 fish. Got fish on frogs and shaky heads in the evenings and pretty much threw the Magdraft in the mornings up north. Targeted docks and seawalls. Big fish 7.2#'s

Shad spawn was in full swing and this white popping perch was critical in getting bites. I found an area the day before and got lots of bites on the clear perch, but the day of the tournament I had to switch to the white to get the bigger bite. Just put it together too late in the morning.

I went back after having a rough showing for a club tournament the week prior. Ended up losing a couple of good fish this today as well as losing the palm plate to my frog rod in the lake. Ended up flipping the bugpee into the holes of eel grass/ coontail mix to pick up a couple of key fish. This one broke my PB and weighed in just around 5.75lbs, an absolute slaunch for NY!!

Fish grass lines and sparse grass clumps in 3-8’ of water. Swimming worms in the same cover mop up less aggressive fish. Wind is helpful for the spinnerbait bite. In less windy conditions the swimming worm was more effective.

The fish are very tough to catch and it is not taking much weight to win the tournaments down there as of lately. Docks have fish on them if you want to get bit but the bigger fish are deeper. The only bad thing about deep is they may be there one day and gone the next, or they aren’t there good at all.

Great day today! Warm and WINDY. Caught a fair amount of fish under docks. But caught bigger fish drifting in the wind in 7-10 feet of water over grass. Spinnerbait was the key with the white trailer tails painted red with the garlic stick. Caught roughly 40 bass with a few nice smallmouth in the mix. Decent amount of above average size bass.

Big bass are on the weedlines, hanging out around bedding bluegill. Have been using my Humminbird side imaging to find bluegill beds, then dropping the aqua-vu on them to see if there are bluegill on them and the size of the bluegill. Bigger bass hang around the bigger bluegills.

Looked for beds anywhere from 3ft to 15 ft deep. Mainly concentrated along boulder lines on the reefs where rocks meet sand. TRD crawz are my favorite bed fishing bait because the pinchers irratate the fish into biting. Lighter colors are helpful for watching the fish eat on the bed. Larger fish will be spawning out deep.

Fish were in a really weird post spawn funk and it was really tough to get a good bite. The only thing we had success with was weightless baits and dead sticking as long and as painfully possible. The fish seemed to be moving to much for them to key in on anything for us

Got on the water early and found some pickerel and pike roaming the weed breaks in 6-10' of water. Spent much of the day trying similar weed edges, rock breaks, reeds, and shoreline wood, but didn't find a lot of success. Early in the afternoon, we returned to our beginning weed edges and quickly found some excellent 3 pounders, with a mix of smaller bass, large pickerel, and a few nice pike using a mixture of Ned rig and jigs. Beast Coast jigs with a mix of trailers were the best option to entice the bite. Most fish looked a little beat up, like they were just coming off their beds.

Fished the Anglers Choice Northern division Sunday on Shawano. Fish seemed to be in all three phases: prespawn, spawn, and post spawn. The majority of fish were in the prespawn or spawn, though, with a few early bedding fish done. Bite was very tough and size was incredibly hard to come by. Finished 8th place with 11.6 pounds, less than a half of a pound from third place, which was just under 12 pounds. The top two spots were over 15 pounds. We caught a majority of our fish in the tournament on trick worms and creature baits in the weeds. In practice we caught some on chatterbaits, zoom ultra vibe speed worms, one good one on a jig (pictured), and senkos as well. We found some beds in practice, but we didn’t have a great boat draw so we stayed a little deeper looking for staging fish.

Prespawn smallmouth have moved up onto the flats and shallow spawning areas in Sturgeon bay/Door county. Fishing small swimbaits and hair jigs near bottom in 2-8 feet of water slowly is one of the best ways to cover these expansive flats and slowing down with a light Howies tube on the sweet spots to help get a few “bonus bites”. Light braid to light leaders for long casts and stealth is necessary to fooling these heavily pressured fish.

High 40-low 50 degree water temps, air temp in mid 40s. Caught a ton of quality fish on main lake waupaca chain slow rolling a yum scottsboro swimbait along the deeper breaks adjacent to flats. Key depth was around 15-22ftow and I also picked up a few just pitching a 1/2 ounce queen jig with a chunk on the break line which got a couple of big bites.

Water temps 56-59. Had a great day overall, caught allot of fish and some quality fish. Our best bait was a chartreuse/white spinnerbait. We also flipped brush and caught quite a few as well. We covered water throwing the spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and t-rigs right in the brush.

On a day they should’ve been eating reaction baits, it seemed like the only place we could get bit were at the ends of deep lay downs or chunk rock that were near current breaks and also changes in bottom composition. I don’t think color was a big deal. They wanted something in there face that they could see in the super stained water.

Winter bass fishing can be tough. But with side-scan, a blade bait, and some hand warmers, you’ll be bagging smallies in no time! Pick yourself up a 3/8 oz Damiki Vault. For some reason gold works best. Launch anywhere on the Spokane River Arm, and just use your sidescan to find rock piles in water that is between 20’-50’. Each of these rock piles will most likely contain multiple nice smallmouth. Just drop the Damiki Vault straight down when you are over the rock pile and jig it up and down off of the bottom. Allow it to sit for 5-8 seconds, and then pull it up just enough to feel a couple flutters of the lure. Slowly lower it back down and give it a few seconds. The bite feels like a wet rag on the end of your line. It isn’t a hard thump, more of a soft mushy bite. Set the hook and you are in business. Good luck! This technique works anytime from December through April. 👍🏼

First time one the lake this year. I thought the fish was a little further along but seemed to be still in prespawn mode. The smaller fish were up shallow. Big girls were out in lead in banks but still a little finicky. Shakey head worked but didn't catch any size.

I was able to put together a 13-3 limit on a tough day by focusing on secondary rounded points with chunk rock or gravel in coves protected from the wind. The fish seemed to be stacked on these points as they staged to make their way to the back of the coves to spawn. A cold front and high winds kept the water cool and slowed down the bite. Working the jig across and down the points repeatedly was key.

We have had a very mild winter and the smallmouth don’t seem to mind. After a big storm came through Friday river was 2 feet over normal and pretty dirty. We found fish in Eddies where you expect them to be in the winter but pretty close to current seams. They weren’t shy about about eating the baits either had a couple make my line jump they ate the jig so hard. Ran up a local creek and caught some there too. Love the different colors of smallmouth.

Chasing the cleaner water, I found myself in the higher 40’s for water temp. Although the water is cold, the high sun and a warm day will absolutely draw the fish to the flats on mouths of coves near spawning bays. You may not be chasing as many bites, but the ones you get are worth putting in the boat.

Was able to win a club derby on Saturday by fishing main and secondary points leading to spawning areas. The majority of my bigger bass came out of 6-8 ft. of water by throwing a Spro RkCrawler around the points. To cull up a very small keeper I found some fish out on Livescope and first drop with a damiki rigged ned bomb and caught my second biggest of the day. If y’all are fishing a lake similar to Norfork, a great way to approaching these lakes are fishing channel swing banks and long tapering points. Medium diving crankbaits and jigs are a must have when fishing highland reservoirs. Hopefully these tips will help you out on y’all’s next trip out on the water.
