Island Lake is a unique fishery. Smallmouth in this lake often behave more like largemouth bass here. There are very few Largemouth in this system, so your best bet is to target smallies. While you can catch some smallmouth on rocks, its best to target areas where Grass meets wood, rock or docks. Combination of grass and these other hard covers seem to be the ticket to consistency on this body of water in August. Search for bass with Whopper Ploppers & White flukes covering water. Once you dial in, slow down and pick those areas apart with Neko Rigged Stick worms & other natural soft plastics. You can find smallies fairly shallow from 2-3 ft all the way out to 10-15ft.
