9-29 Had another awesome day on Mille Lacs. Weather was relatively calm which meant targeting shallow boulders. This was key to finding good fish. Not saying you cannot catch fish deep with calm conditions but in my opinion the fish you find on the shallow boulders will be more active. Bouncing back and forth between spots seemed to be a key strategy to keeping them bite. The 1/8 oz head is also key, this allows the fish to get a visual of the bait following increasing the chances of a reaction bite. Also working the bait super slow is a detail that is not talked about enough. I am a firm believer 70% of the people using the ned tend to over work this bait. My client noticed that after he would catch a fish he would get very excited and not get any bites. As soon as I would point out his cadence was too fast he started to get bites. Calm down and understand that finesse is big in this. Green pumpkin goby is actually a darker purple, for reasons unknown to me- dark purple is a game changer out there. I’ve out fished a lot of friends running a traditional cray fish color (orange/dark orange) trailer with bee the years. I’ve seen 60 - 64 degree water temps. We’re setting up to have a great fall. Thanks for checking this report out and don’t hesitate to get in touch for a guide trip.
