Found a few nice fish around the lake fishing ned rigs and crankbaits. I fished neds when the water was calm and there was no wind. I focused on shade lines, brush piles, and rock. When the wind would pick up, I switched to cranking. Bouncing a small crankbait off of rock, brush, or trees was a good way to trigger fish. In the fall, keep an eye out for bluegill pushed up against the shore and focus on structure or depth in those areas.

Evening bite is hot! After the solar eclipse, the fish were closed lip. This evening was a different story. We caught at least 30 fish in 30+ feet of water using the NED. Fall in these desert lakes are better in the afternoon / evening. The fish were hitting it on the fall and on the bottom. I use a 1/10oz Ned head to keep it on top of the grass.

Stopped off for a quick walk this morning and Jack’d a good 3 pound fish on a white buzzbait. The fish are up shallow in the mornings feeding and preparing for the winter haunts. Also jacked a few with a finesse jig.

Fish were out in 30’ until dark. Then they moved up shallow to feed on bluegill fry. Stroked them on an Omega Tackle Custom Jig and Strike King 4” Rage Bug trailer in green pumpkin. Also boated several using the Green Pumpkin Finesse TRD Ned. Work them slow from deep to shallow targeting transition areas as they were moving up and down all night.

The lake is cooling rapidly. The fall transition is nearing its end. Largemouth can be found in coves and flats that have green sunfish and bluegill. If you find the bait, the Largemouth are likely close by. Smallmouth can be caught on more finesse techniques: dropshot, 1/16-1/4 oz jigs with 2.8-3.3 Keitech swimbaits, lightly weighted flukes, and jerkbaits. Walleye are also feeding up and we're catching quite a few on slow moving jerkbaits. Twitch, twitch, pause for 4-5 seconds. Make sure your jerkbait is tuned to suspend perfectly. Add a small lead strip if it's floating. Cover water if you don't find fish.

Fall transition is in full swing. Largemouth are feeding aggressively in shallow cover. The reservoir is fairly small but the water was high on our last visit. There is obvious "structure" that tends to hold fish. Flooded brush, the rip rap by the dam, small rocky points, etc. Tried a few different options but crankbaits got the fish going. Something in the 1-6' range is great. Squarebills are excellent options to reduce hang ups. Something that deflects off of wood and rock is a good option. I had one explode on the bait and two others where the line got heavy before they realized they were hooked.

Little community lake/pond with some Utah tanks in it. Lots of vegetation. Throw jigs near weed lines and under docks. All colors work well.

Wacky rig with a weedless wacky hook. Find weed lines and under trees and docks. They like to catch it on the fall.

Had my best single day, so far, fishing the Kayak Fishing Utah State Championship. 84.25" to include my PB and tied for the largest Bass in a KFU tourney. I was fishing the Dark Sleeper of humps on flats in 25-30' of water. Slow rolling it on the bottom, and hopping it up followed by a couple seconds of fast reeling. Lots of fish, with most being pretty decent Utah bass.

Water temps are in the low 50s and water level in lake is down. Fished PB&J Zman Hula Sticks on a 1/15 oz Nedlocks with very slow presentation. Water was slightly stained with about 10 feet of visibility. Fish were fairly deep, sitting in areas near ledges, that held some vegetation/grass. Fish presentation very slow, the bite is extremely subtle and mushy. You will need a very sensitive rod, such as the Dobyns Champion Extreme DX742SF, to feel those really subtle bites. I like to use a very long leader given the visibility, a good 12 to 15 feet of leader to my braid. Fish aren't as deep as the 40 ft depth mark, but look for them to continue to push out as temperatures drop. As we move into the winter bite, the bass will hover near ledges and south facing rocks that warm in the sun during the day.

Fishing early morning and late afternoon has produced better quality fish. Targeting deep structure and grass lines with a spinnerbait has been the ticket for larger fish. Drop shots and under spins also produce a lot of bites, just not the size. Fish can be caught at depths between 10 and 40 feet. Find the structure and grass edges for best success.
